Bond Fund vs buying government bonds directly, which is simpler?

Would rather not deal with auctions directly. Is going through the Bond Fund a reasonable shortcut?

It trades some potential yield for simplicity and diversification. Worth it if you do not want to manage individual bond purchases yourself.
